Are these two class one girl's teams headed to an epic battle of undefeated teams?

Has there ever been a state championship game with two undefeated girls' basketball teams in the state of Missouri?

Well, without putting a jinx on either of these teams, it might just happen this year with class one Meadville and Delta facing off.  Unfortunately, the way the backets are set, districts 1-4 and 9-12 are in the upper bracket of the state tournament game and it would end up being the semi-final game of the tournament, not an epic state championship game.

Meadville, in district 12, is Gramp's current front runner in the Braggin' Rights ratings and, Delta, in district 1, is the second-best rated team in the class one girls.  Everyone else is about 10 points or more back from these two, who could give class six teams fits with their excellent play.

The teams are headed for a crash collision, but it would be much nicer if it was for a state championship.

How do those two teams compare, you ask?

Meadville has outscored opponents 80 to 24, has a raw and weighted rating of 155, and a Strength of Schedule (average opponents' ratings) of 102.  Their closest future opponents (LaPlata, Green City, and Bishop LeBlond) are all 25-point underdogs.  Barring injury or misfortune, Meadville should continue their 40-game winning streak into post-season play (I have not factored tournament games into their calculation).

Delta had a good run last winter, finishing fourth at state, and should run through their regular schedule unscathed too.  Delta has outscored opponents 94 to 43, have an SOS of 101 and their closest games in the new year will be Farmington (22-point favorites) and Park Hills Central (27-point favorites).  Look for Delta to have an unblemished record deep into the state tournament.

At this point, I would give Meadville a very slight edge.  Too bad the state brackets are not set up for a clash of unbeatens in the final, although Green City and NE Cairo might have something to say in Meadville's bracket and Platte Valley, Chadwick, Macks Creek and South Iron might be giving Delta a run for their money.

If you recall two undefeated teams meeting in a state final, retweet it with my X post.
