It's time for some Hoops! 11/15/2023

It is time for some high school hoops!  Girls and Boys jamborees are tipping off around the state of Missouri as you read this blog.  Coaches and players are excited about the new season.  Fans are getting wound up (some literally wound up in their shorts) about their favorite team.  It is an exciting time cuz folks have high expectations and they want their team to be the best on the block.  Bragging rights is a big deal, especially in a lot of small towns when the local high school team is about all that is going on during the long, cold winter.

There is some great pre-season info over on Earl Austin, Jr.'s "Earl Time Podcast" with an analysis and summary of the top boy's teams and players in classes one through three.  You can listen up on Apple HERE or on Spotify THERE.  I do not know how Earl can get around to see all these great HS players and know so much about each one, but he does and it is spot on.  Heck, maybe Earl will have Gramps on some time to talk about Braggin' Rights Ratings.  You don't want to miss Earl's insight into what's going down with the small school classes and I cannot wait for his class four to six analysis.

On another front, my buddy John Hough, over at GSV, has been taking some heat from some recalcitrant Bar Stool wannabees about his pre-season top 25 Missouri HS boy's basketball ratings.  Downright nasty comments from some Yahoo down in Webb City.  I don't think that kind of nastiness on Twitter or X, or whatever you want to call it, is okay.  It's not okay.  I don't always agree with John on his picks but we get along pretty well after a rocky start.

Gateway Sports Venue videos are some of the best HS game highlights around.  John doesn't get paid to do this stuff but he does it for the love of the game.  His ratings are posted to get people excited and talking about the season but the discourse needs to be polite.  When I get nasty comments on Gramp's ratings, I try and understand whether I have a mistake in my formula but if the other party continues to be nasty, I have got an eject button on X that is called a "Block".  Pretty soon, the guy in Webb City won't have any feed because everyone has blocked him.  So, Folks, let's be polite in our discourse.

Today is a new day for Gramps.  A new beginning.  I will get my left eye fixed (cataract surgery) this morning and my right eye cataract fixed in early December.  So if you see me looking like a pirate, you will know why.  I may see better but I will probably still need reading glasses to crank up the Braggin' Rights Ratings for boys and girls, which will start in mid-December after we have some game results under the belt.

I am hoping I will run into Earl or John at the Ladue Jamboree tomorrow night when Ladue, CBC, Eureka, and Gateway STEM face off in what should be a good night of basketball.  Bring three cans of food along to Ladue HS to get in a watch three of the top St. Louis teams face off in this pre-season jam.

Here are my top 50 pre-season ratings for all classes of boys and girls (actually it is the final ratings for the 2022-2023 season so Bar Stool Webb City can complain about last year):

Missouri Boys top 50 (all classes)

Missouri Girls top 50 (all classes)

Good luck to all the HS teams on their 2023-2024 seasons.

John Hough's top 25 boys basketball teams rankings has most of Gramps 2022-2023 top teams with the exception of Nixa, Park Hills Central, Troy, Westminster, De Smet, St. Joseph Lafayette, Pembroke Hill, Park Hill and Kirkwood.   I would expect Nixa, Park Hills Central, Troy and De Smet to be in the top 25 again this year.  I guess we will see....
